The Importance of Interior Design

Welcome back to the “This Can All Be Easier” blog. My name is Angie Bachman. October is Dental Office Design Month. There are so many facets to Dental Office Design, I could probably blog about it for a year. As predicted, the response has been overwhelming. Last week, I brought you Gabriel Pearlman, Senior Practice Designer at Design Ergonomics who discussed Dental Office Design as a Concept first. If you haven’t already, you’ll have to check it out.

It’s week 2 of Dental Office Design Month, today, we’re talking interior design (literally). Recently, I had a conversation with Dental Office Interior Design Extraordinaire, Donna Kent. Donna has been working with Design Ergonomics for the last 11 years. It was such a great conversation I wanted to bring you the whole thing. I jotted down some of the highlights, but it’s worth a listen to the audio - join us for a 15 minute glimpse into this fascinating world!

Why Interior Design is so Important in a Dental Office

“It really sets the tone, not only for your patients feeling welcome and relaxed as they come to your office, but it’s also a reflection of you; your practice, your values – what you think is important to provide for your patients.

It gives them an immediate sense of who you are, what you’re about,  how caring you are, and what a comfortable professional environment they’re entering.”

Insight to When You Should Start Thinking About Interior Design

“The more time and depth you can spend with a designer to understand your vision and make sure it all comes together at once. Don’t lose time or push out dates by having interior design discussions too late in the process.”

What You Should Expect (and Demand) from Your Designer

“You want to be able to look at one composed master plan of every finish in your office. All flooring, all cabinetry, all work surfaces, all wall surfaces, any specialty surfaces…

You’re working with materials specific to the healthcare industry. That would be a big piece of what a design would provide to you.

We also provide all the elevation drawings throughout office...dimension drawings that show every cabinet and counter top and layout...with materials called out. It’s a technical, detailed specific page that would need to be part of the whole bid set that you take to the bidding process.”

How Design Ergonomics is Different

“We’re positioned to work with your entire team; your architect, GC, subs – so we can take the weight of ongoing questions off your shoulders. You shouldn’t use your professional time to chase small details.

It’s a fuller and more in depth of scope of work we provide. We’re there from day one to when you open your doors – and later!”

And because we only design Dental Offices the range of experience and knowledge we bring to you is invaluable - not only for you, and your patients - but for the specifics of your budget and project. It’s a whole package.”

...and a whole lot more eye-opening
information on this critical Design element!

I have learned so much from this conversation. I hope the readers and listeners do too! It was so cool to sit down with Donna and see how passionate she is about the work she does. Thank you Donna! Next week, I’m excited to introduce Paul Leonard, Senior Dental Office Designer with Design Ergonomics. If growth and capacity become issues but a new location is out of reach, Paul discusses viable options you may not know you have.
