How Sala Family Dentistry's New Office Helps Create Millionaire Employees

When they embarked on the largest effort in their practice history — the project several years ago to expand their office from 4,200 square feet and ten treatment rooms to 17,000 square feet with 27 treatment rooms — brothers Dr. Jason Sala, DMD and Dr. Todd A. Sala, DMD didn't yet imagine how their new office could help them create something far greater than just their personal success.

"We were flying across country and Todd and I were talking about the Forbes billionaire list," Jason says. "One of the articles talked about Bill Gates as the largest maker of millionaires in the United States." Since Microsoft was founded nearly fifty years ago by Bill Gates, employee grants of stock over the decades have appreciated significantly, building significant wealth for Microsoft employees.

"Todd and I decided if Bill Gates can create ten thousand millionaires, why can't we create ten?" Jason says. Over the course of about a year and a half, Jason and Todd kept coming back to the millionaire creation idea, so they decided to commit to Sala Family Dentistry creating ten new millionaires.

Having settled into the new space over the past few years, things are running great for Sala Family Dentistry. Todd and Jason are happy that they invested time and money to significantly expand the practice, building a new office and growing significantly from 20 employees to 60. With a focus on efficiency and customer service, they’re winning awards for the care they're providing. For the 2023 edition of the Best of Reno Awards, Sala Family Dentistry was voted as the Best Dentist (Dr. Jason Sala), Best Pediatric Dentist (Dr. Ryan Jensen), Best Benefits Program, Best Employee Recognition Program, and Best Overall Leadership.

Design Ergonomics is proud to have helped bring their vision to reality by initially developing a conceptual blocking diagram to outline the scale and flow of what the new practice could become. After discussions with the Sala Family Dentistry team, Design Ergonomics then created a comprehensive architectural floor plan as well as the interior design for the new office, clearly defining what was possible. The beautiful facility includes additional pre-plumbed operatories ready for use as the needs of the practice grew even further.

Sharing the techniques for increased dental office productivity

Subsequent to their big office expansion, Jason and Todd opened their doors to dentists who are considering an expansion like theirs and became a Design Ergonomics Regional Center of Excellence. Sala Family Dentistry now hosts Over The Shoulder Events to demonstrate the techniques for dramatically increased dental office productivity.

When other dentists visit, they explain how the transition to a larger practice was the right move for them. "I tell my peers that it's a little shameful if you have a smaller practice because you're not serving as many patients," Todd says. "More patients could use your care and extra space is what you need for them. Trust that historical data is predicting your future data and develop a culture to maximize your strengths." And with a larger office, you have more opportunity to create significant wealth both personally and for your entire team.
